I had something exciting happen! I had noticed a deer standing a little funny at the top of the hill and grabbed my camera and it turns out to be a pregnant Doe. Everything in her body language is a little different and that’s really what drew my attention. I do believe she is having contractions! She stood in that one spot for at least 10 minutes. She’s chewing something much faster than they normally do and yet I never actually saw her pick anything up off the ground or trees. When she stops chewing super fast, is when the contraction happens and if you watch her belly where it curves in front of her hip, you can see it move. The other weird thing is whatever she’s chewing looks like a big wad of something as her cheeks seem to bulge with it, but you can see her swallow, have the contraction and it appears to be regurgitating as the big wad is back in her mouth. She even drools after one contraction. I was so excited, I kept wondering if the fawn was going to pop out and I was going to have the luck of catching it all on video!!!!!! But I didn’t ;-(
The UPS Truck drove up the driveway and she ran off into the woods.
Here’s a video, forgive any movement on my part, I was full zoom and handheld because I was afraid I would miss the big moment if it happened while setting up the tripod.

Now, Listen to Thea and have yourself a Great Day!!!
~Thea 🙂

I’ve watched the deer on our property with much interest since 2006 by use of trail cameras and just out the back window of our house as they eat the grass on the hillside behind our pool.
This is the time of year when Momma chases away her previous years fawns because soon she will be taking care of her new fawns. For about a week now I haven’t seen momma and yet the 2010 twin fawns have been out exploring on their own or hanging with some Aunts but not with momma.

Today momma was up on the top of the hill looking like she’s about ready to burst!!! She almost always has twins with an occasional triplet delivery. I’m so excited!!! Since 2006 she has gotten quite used to us and will even continue to eat grass on the hill even if we’re outside on the patio and moving about.
As I sat and watched her I thought for a second that she was going to give birth right on the hill!!! She just looks like she’s uncomfortable and was just standing there with her tail up somewhat but wasn’t going to the bathroom at all. After about 5 minutes her tail came down and she continued munching on the grass. I would bet that it’s going to be any time now that she has her new fawns!

You can see in the pictures below how round her belly is and how far it sticks out to the side!

My baby boy will be 16 in 3 days, and as I reminisce about days gone by, I felt an urge to write a 2nd photo entry for Home. These photos are from my son’s first day home from the hospital.
