As always, enjoy your local wildlife and have a great day!   🙂

I had something exciting happen! I had noticed a deer standing a little funny at the top of the hill and grabbed my camera and it turns out to be a pregnant Doe. Everything in her body language is a little different and that’s really what drew my attention. I do believe she is having contractions! She stood in that one spot for at least 10 minutes. She’s chewing something much faster than they normally do and yet I never actually saw her pick anything up off the ground or trees. When she stops chewing super fast, is when the contraction happens and if you watch her belly where it curves in front of her hip, you can see it move. The other weird thing is whatever she’s chewing looks like a big wad of something as her cheeks seem to bulge with it, but you can see her swallow, have the contraction and it appears to be regurgitating as the big wad is back in her mouth. She even drools after one contraction. I was so excited, I kept wondering if the fawn was going to pop out and I was going to have the luck of catching it all on video!!!!!! But I didn’t ;-(
The UPS Truck drove up the driveway and she ran off into the woods.
Here’s a video, forgive any movement on my part, I was full zoom and handheld because I was afraid I would miss the big moment if it happened while setting up the tripod.

This is what I imagine the fawns saying:

I was out working in the yard when I looked up and saw THREE fawns at the top of the hill and momma. I very slowly and as quietly as I could, turned around and went into the house for my camera. One of the fawns retreated into the woods when it saw me moving but the other two stayed out for a short bit. I was wondering if the spot pattern is the same or different for each fawn. I would imagine its different, but they do look very similar from what I can see. I love fawns!

A quick update on the Bluebirds. Their babies all grew up and left the nest and now they are setting up a new nest I believe! They are still Tap tap tapping at my windows but we’re used to it! 😉

I went out and checked my trail camera which is a Reconyx rc60 rapidfire HO.  I was disappointed to find out after a month the batteries had died but it’s been out since June and I was hoping for a ton of photos.

Are you looking at ME?

Grooming in front of the camera

Aren’t fawns just adorable!

Young buck with his little antlers

He says ‘Who you looking at?’

The camera is “SUPPOSED” to be completely silent–I can’t  hear it when it’s taking pictures

But the deer certainly seem to hear something

I just thought this was kind of a comical picture -the deer must have been running and the camera caught it preparing to jump.

This is one kinky squirrel—in this smaller sized picture it’s a little difficult to see but he has a very kinky tail. Must have just returned from the salon or cross bred with a raccoon!

Have a great day!

I love fawns–they are so beautiful with their morse code of dashes and dots
From this angle it looks like a long white line running from ear to shoulder

But here you can clearly see it’s a series of dashes.  Looks like this fawn might grow up to be a buck with that antler nub above the eye.

This one was closer and definitely making eye contact with me.

This doe is standing on her hind legs to get to some tasty leaves

For the first time that I’ve seen anyway, the 2011 fawns were out on the top of the hill and it’s official, Momma Doe had twins again this year! I tried to remain calm as I alerted my daughter but our dogs picked up on the excitement in my voice and ran to the nearest open sliding door to bark. I didn’t see Momma Doe but the twins were testing out their running skills as they ran back and forth three or four times across the top of the hill before dashing back into the woods.I got my camera and telephoto lens out and was only able to snap one quick photo before they were gone.Because they were running in opposite directions at the same time I only have one fawn in the photo. Now that they’ve been at the top of the hill once, we’ll start seeing more of them and I’ve got my camera ready to go for the next time now. 🙂
What concerns me is how the baby foxes and the fawns will interact with each other. Normally a red fox wouldn’t mess with a full grown deer but I have no idea when it comes baby foxes and baby fawns.

**Would you like me to put the camera on a Robin’s Nest with 3 baby birds in it?**

Welcome to my LIVE Webcam!
During the next couple of days I’m going to be trying to adjust things for better viewing probably so bear with me but I’m thrilled it’s working so far! You can even watch it full screen if you wish! I’m trying to get a chat window to work but in the meantime, if you wish to chat with others that may be viewing you can do so by clicking on the words ustream on the player I believe and that will take you to the ustream website which makes this all possible!
I think the first time you watch it if you click the large play button ON THE SCREEN it will open up the ustream window but if you click the actual play button on the movie player it will play from my blog. I THINK this is how it works anyway! lol!

It’s currently pointing out at our backyard and we have a lot of bird activity. Our ‘regulars’ are Chickadee’s, Downy Woodpeckers, Goldfinches, several varieties of Sparrows, Grosbeaks, Black Eyed Junco’s, Cardinals, Bluejays, Doves, Wrens, Titmouse, Pine Siskin, Nuthatches, Robin, huge crows. and our migrating friends that are here for the summer are Orioles, Bluebirds, Ruby Throated Hummingbirds. Rare birds(to my yard) that I’ve seen so far this year: Indigo Bunting, Red Winged Black Bird, Brown Headed Cow Bird pair Male & Female.

If this works out well I may even have to invest in a camera with a zoom to record the activity on the hill behind the pool where we have deer daily, turkeys and other wildlife as well.

Because I am new to this–I’m still trying to find what is the best settings for everyone. If the stream video doesn’ t work for you would you please leave me a comment and just let me know and what type of connection you have-for example:dialup, cable, etc.

Thanks!

Sorry friends the camera is temporarily down due to a malfunction> Enjoy some recorded video from the past week in the meantime. 🙂

I am a wildlife lover and have been observing the wildlife in our woods since we bought our property in the country.  So you know what that means???  I have too many pictures to choose just one! I was hoping momma Doe would grace us with presenting her fawns of this year before time ran out for this weeks submission but  she didn’t  so I’m submitting these at the last minute.

This picture of a Turkey Hen & Poults was captured with my Canon EOS 7D camera through our sliding glass door so I wouldn’t spook them as they walked up one side of our backyard. Thank goodness for my 400mm zoom lens!

Here’s a video of a Turkey giving itself a dirt bath taken with our old camcorder. Sorry for the shakiness but I didn’t have a tripod and it’s hard to keep the picture still when you’re zoomed out to the max.

These photos were captured with our trail camera so we could see what the critters were up to when we weren’t around.

I was surprised to learn that different animals seem just fine being around each other. I’ve seen the deer hang out with turkeys, racoons, rabbits, woodchucks & skunks.

In this photo the fawn is running about and is too fast for the trail camera settings. I love the fact that you can see that the fawn had twirled it’s tail in a circle, even if it does look like a ghost fawn! 🙂

In this photo one fawn stands at alert as the other snuggles up with momma to browse for food.

Don’t you just love those spots! So adorable!!!

Hope everyone has a GREAT DAY!!!
